This application "looks" through a set of collection images and adds metadata. Properties like color palette, image orientation, number of faces, recognizable objects, visually similar items--all of these can be added to collection metadata algorithmically.
Start with a CSV with collection data and image filenames; match with a set of images. The application scans each image and adds data to the CSV.
There's a huge and growing opportunity to explore how emerging technologies like computer vision can add value to museum collections. What would have required immense resources just a few years ago can now be accomplished rather easily.
