Create a structured-data timeline for each collection object, and an aggregate timeline for the collection. What happened in the collection on this date? What collection objects have a special connection to today? We've got you covered.
Collections data typically includes many date references (though not always structured): date created, date accessioned, exhibition dates, artist birth and death dates. Additional dates could be added based on content: winter scenes, religious/holiday imagery, historical scenes. Some objects may lend themselves to time-based data like time of day, or season. Output as ical/ics.
Typical digital collections present themselves as an empty search box. Sometimes, a list of categories is given, sometimes with thumbnails. Adding additional context allows many more entry points for browsing collection items. Further, the collection as a whole--it's history, change and flow--becomes an object for exploration.
